Feathers, Hides and Hair

Poultry abattoirs, Pork abattoirs and Tanneries have their own unique problems regarding Biological Waste.

Feathers, fat and skin are the main sources of Biological Waste found at Poultry abattoirs and are very high potentially infectious agents. Enterobacteriaceae and Pseudomonas spp are very prevalent and with other pathogens, increase drastically after defeathering. Interesting to note is that the neck skin has lower infection potential than the actual feathers.

Pig Abattoirs have to deal with Salmonella and it is reported that 30% of pigs infected by cross contamination. This shows the impact of Biological Waste as a source for infectious agents and the infection risk, not only to humans but animals as well.

Tanneries also produce copious amounts of Biological Waste by the sheer volume of hides that are processed. Not only is roughly 16% of the processed hides waste, but every raw hide also produces about 0.5 kg solid waste.

We at Convertech have designed the technology and equipment to solve these problems at the source of possible infection. In consultation with the relevant parties, we can follow a relevant course of action that can be High or Low Pressure denaturing, gas or electrical, low or high volume units.
