A Breath of (Fresh) Air – Finally!
Article by Piet Kruger
As some of you may have noticed, I have been relatively quiet as far as posting new content on this site other than updating the events calendar every so often.
Fortunately there comes a time when all can be revealed and today is the day that I can at long last give everyone a glimpse into the exciting new developments packs that are about to be handed over to Waste Resolution Technologies for commercial roll-out as from the end of November onwards.
Alkaline Hydrolysis Development
Second Generation MAAHP Tissue Processors
WRT launched the 2nd generation MAAHP Tissue processors in May. To improve the design, performance and extend the functionality of the 2nd generation systems we first had to re-engineer our process heating curve which then enabled us to develop an entirely new concept where we could co-digest a large volume of blood and tissue at the same time using one combined tissue processor – and just for good measure we made it run on bio-diesel at a 96.4% efficiency!
For those that do not fully appreciate the significance of this little number – it means putting 1600 degrees Celsius into the fire tubes on the one end and ending up with 78 degrees Celsius out the chimney – or in simpler terms, it heats like a demon at a dramatically reduced energy cost.
Kudos to Jacques for pulling off this amazing accomplishment!
MAAHP By-Product Development
We successfully developed a soap refining protocol and prototype that led to the inclusion of soap originating from the tissue processor as a raw material that can be used in the commercial production of hard soap.
All credit to Hannes, Mark and Jimmy for what I believe is a first ever!
Third Generation Tissue Processing Technology
I spent a fair amount of time researching and developing process protocols, trials and conceptual designs for a 3rd generation biochemical tissue processor which should be available commercially within the next 12 months or hopefully a bit sooner if all goes well.
Industrial / Consumer Product Development
Cold Sterilizers
Largely setting the direction for the rest of the year, we started field-testing a new eco-friendly, low temperature formulation-based substrate sterilizer. This product – OXYclave – has proven itself to be everything we hoped it would be and a whole lot more.
OXYclave was co-developed by Dr. Ronel Van Rooyen of Mycophiles Spawn Laboratories and myself, and was originally only destined for the mushroom industry as a substrate sterilizer but due to the enormous potential of the product, OXYclave is currently undergoing SABS certification for use in other areas including the food industry. We expect certification to be completed by March 2011 at the latest.
Eco-Friendly Industrial / Consumer Product Development
Most of the remainder of 2010 went into the development of number of incredibly useful and effective industrial cleaning, bio-remediation, hydrocarbon destruction and specialized odor control product formulations.
The first development pack (1 of 6) for this range will be handed over this morning and inititially three commercial consumer ranges (about 28 products in total) will be available to clients, via Waste Resolution Technologies and their distributor network, within 14 days.
I will be posting a lot of new updates in the coming weeks so make sure you check back frequently.
Till next time then…
