Condemned material at abattoirs normally includes Specific Risk Material and refers to meat, organs etc. that are unfit for human and or animal consumption and need to be destroyed. This creates major problems for abattoirs.
Condemned Abbatoir Products will be classified as such by Meat Quality Inspectors, Health Inspectors or Veterinary Inspectors following guidelines set by Meat and Poultry Industry or statutory requirements.
The condemned abbatoir products are either active, or high-risk potential carriers of infectious agents that may infect humans or animals. Disposal of this waste is extremely problematic and historically would include incinerating, landfills, burial, rendering, composting and re-feeding etc. Even on site storage, transport etc. cause headaches for abattoirs.
