Animal Blood

Blood as a Biological Waste Product is very unique and interesting. It is a very rich source of nitrogen and potentially infectious agents.

Because of the health risk, the use of blood in animal feeds is strictly regulated. Disposal of blood is very risky in untreated form, yet the potential application and benefits of this nitrogen source as a fertilizer is immense.

Current practices of disposal of untreated blood range from composting, irrigation to flushing it down the sewerage system. Municipalities, health, environmental and water management agencies are increasingly clamping down on this practice because of the obvious health risks and the high Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD). Water and Utility penalties can be astronomical and seems to be more effectively enforced.

Convertech has developed the technology and the equipment to convert blood into fertilizer on site. This is in line with our philosophy of treating the problem at the source. The Blood to Fertilizer unit will provide pathogen free fertilizer that is stable and can be stored for months without the typical foul odour associated with decomposing blood.
